From the fertile mountains of Merida, Venezuela, world-traveling Leomar Mendez is quickly gaining ground as the local “Artesano” (the Spanish word for “artisan”) wherever he goes. He was born with an ear for music, memorizing a tune or melody after hearing it just one time! His lyrics are passionate, provocative, and based on a love of life and equality. The songs are woven tapestries of classic hip-hop flavored beats, with freshly chopped and blended samplings of street wisdom. Hearing his music makes it impossible for you not to smile and start moving your feet!
Leomar is an all-around artist, and his spirit has been dedicated to the art of Capoeira for over 15 years, which has included various years of traveling nationwide to give classes to both adults and children. After the birth of his son he relocated to Venezuela for a short period of time to construct the first ever skate park in the city of Merida. Creating this project for his home and community was deeply fulfilling for him, and made him realize that life is too short to not work hard towards your true callings. He thus returned to the United States to dedicate himself to his lifelong dream of working in film and sound production. He is now in his second year at the Colorado Film School, where he is his classmates’ point-man for anything sound-related for their movies. He is constantly adding sound engineering and film skills to his portfolio, as he simultaneously performs at fellow artist & community events, while working towards finishing and releasing his first album.
His passion and interests include skateboarding, social/environmental justice, capoeira, magic, and creating bilingual activities for his 7-year old inspiration of a son. Leomar is currently making appearances at local venues throughout Denver and Boulder, Colorado.
